Colton James Christopherson, of Maple Lake and Minneapolis, Minnesota, died suddenl, at the age of 21. His death left his family, friends and community facing the heartbreaking loss of a young man whose life was filled with family, friendships, work and the interests that brought him happiness. His obituary remembered him as someone with a strong sense of humor and a personality that could bring laughter to the people around him.
Born on February 9, 2000, Colton spent his early years in Coon Rapids before his family moved to Maple Lake. He graduated from Maple Lake High School in 2018 and continued his education at St. Cloud State University before pursuing an associate degree in non-destructive testing at Ridgewater College in Hutchinson. At the time of his death, he was working for Airgas USA in Ramsey as an ultrasonic testing technician, building a career and looking toward his future.
Colton had many interests that reflected his energetic and adventurous nature. He enjoyed snowmobiling, four-wheeling, fishing, hunting, gaming and cars, while also spending time outdoors and with the people closest to him. His family remembered his involvement in Cub Scouts when he was younger and, above all, his ability to make others laugh. Those small details of personality and everyday life often become especially precious when someone is suddenly gone.
According to his family obituary, Colton had struggled with anxiety, depression and sleep deprivation before his death by suicide. His family chose to remember the whole of his life rather than allowing the circumstances of his death to define him. He was loved by his parents, Mary Mayer and Scott Christopherson, as well as his extended family and many friends who were left to grieve a loss that came far too soon.
Colton’s funeral service was held at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Maple Lake, followed by burial at Maple Lake Community Cemetery, with memorials directed toward scholarships at Maple Lake High School. That tribute helped connect his memory to the community where he grew up and began building his future. Years after his passing, Colton Christopherson remains remembered through the laughter he shared, the interests that brought him joy and the lasting place he holds in the hearts of his family and friends.
